Press Coverage Boston Globe Mark Feeney reviewed my work for the April 30th issue of the The Boston Globe. The printed version of the piece ran with two of my images, which you can see here. Feeney also wrote about my work for the Movie Nation blog on Boston.com.
Feeney writes about my work: "The results are very striking: sinister and funny and disorienting all at once. Leshko usually shoots the rides with empty sky in the background, so nothing frames them but infinity and exultation (or is it fear?). A particularly choice example is "Dangling Legs." Depending on how you look at it, the ride has swallowed the other parts of the riders' bodies -- or this could be a still from a production number Fritz Lang had Busby Berkeley stage for Metropolis." Philadelphia Weekly Review My elderly animal project wasfeaturedin a review for the show "In Review" that is up through September 4th at Gallery 339 in Philadelphia, PA. Critic Roberta Fallon writes, "Isa Leshko's prints of aging farm animals are a reminder of the inevitability and senescence and death....Leshko's black-and-white prints offer a different kind of beauty than that of most animal art, which tends to revel in the vitality of the natural." NPR's Picture Show I was featuredon NPR's Picture Show blog on April 21, 2010. BW Gallerist In a featureon the BW Gallerist blog, author Forrest Old writes, "Isa may in fact be an emerging artist, but her progress in 2010 with multiple shows around the country point ot this being a time of career acceleration for her (collectors note!)." Read the full interview, which includes a discussion on why I enjoy working with Holgas, here. Nymphoto I was interviewed by the Nymphoto blog as part of their Conversations series. The interview includes discussions about my life before photography, my inspirations and my process in developing projects. I was thrilled to be invited to participate in this series, which includes interviews with some of my favorite contemporary photographers, including: Keliy Anderson-Staley, Juliana Beasley, Michal Chelbin, Elizabeth Fleming, Liz Kuball, Colleen Plumb, Susana Raab, Ellen Rennard,Suzanne Revy, Lisa M. Robinson, Emily Shur, Aline Smithson, and Amy Stein.
Lenscratch My work was featured on Aline Smithson's fabulous blog, Lenscratch. I am an avid reader of this blog and a fan of Aline's work, so I was honored by this piece. Aline writes that my Thrills and Chills series is a "perfect match for toy camera imagery" and adds that she was "totally engaged by the images and the concept" of my elderly animal project. But here is quote from this article that touched me the most: "Ms Leshko is a positive voice in the photography world, not hesitating to pass on good will and enthusiasm to her fellow photographers." John Cleary Gallery Blog
Catherine Couturier, owner of the John Cleary Gallery, wrote a lovely feature about me on her gallery's blog on May 19, 2010
Boston Globe My work was included in Mark Feeney's October 10, 2009 review of the New England Photography Biennial Show at the Danforth Museum: "Isa Leshko's 'The Claw, Topsfield Fair' and 'Flying, Topsfield Fair', which she shot with an inexpensive plastic camera, made of amusement park rides Constructivist artifacts." In addition, "The Claw" appeared in the print edition of the article. The Holga Darkroom I was interviewed by Holga Jen for her blog, the Holga Darkroom. The interview includes discussions about why I work with Holgas and about my creative approach to my Thrills and Chills project. Art Throb Read an indepth feature about me and my work on Art Throb. In addition, seven of my images appear in the "Group Exhibit" section of the online magazine.

In the article, Wallspace Gallery owner/director Crista Dix writes: "Isa's images of the carny rides, coasters, tilt-awhirls, ferris wheels and swings are loopy, windy breezes of memories. Shot with a Holga, the images are a little soft and hazy, like the memories we all share from our childhood."
Four Corners Dark My work was recently featured on the Four Corners Dark blog. The article includes several of my images and a discussion of why I enjoy working with toy cameras. In my comments, I explore the connection between punk music and toy camera photography and the paradox of being a perfectionist who creates beautifully imperfect images.
